Spaghetti Tour - Monte Rosa

  • Max. 2 people per Guide
  • 5 days
  • From June to September
Spaghetti Tour is a week that should be on every mountaineer’s bucket list. It’s a trip that never disappoints and it will probably have you coming back to sample more…
With this peculiar name is known Monte Rosa Tour, starting from Cervinia and arriving in Gressoney: many consider these mountains and valleys as the finest in the whole Alpine range. It is probably the most beautiful alpine circuit in the Alps with unique landscapes and a variety of incredible views: the gorgeous Monte Rosa Tour is crossing at altitude around the Liskam, Breithorn and Castore massifs, that allows you to reach different peaks above 4000 meters in just few days, comfortably sleeping in the impressive Monte Rosa huts, well known for the quality of their Italian food…Every day you will reach the summit of a 4000 peak, mostly following the itinerary of the famous "Mezzalama Trophy" sky race.
You start from Cervinia to reach Plateau Rosa with the cable car and to climb to the Western Breithorn (4161 mt.) to then walk to Rifugio Lambronecca, where you will be sleeping the first night and from where you will leave at dawn to climb Castor (4221 mt.) the next day. You will then descend to Rifugio Quintino Sella. On the third day you will cross the Lys’ glacier and the Lyskamm Nose Pass (4272 mt.), reaching the highest peaks of Monte Rosa, to then head to the famous Capanna Margherita (4554 mt.), the highest hut in Europe, where you will stay overnight. The next day you will descend down to Rifugio Città di Mantova passing by some 4000 mt. summits. The last day is kept as a reserve day in case of bad weather.
There are many variations that can be applied to the itinerary, which will be evaluated according to physical conditions and technical level of the group.

1st Day: meeting in Cervinia at 8.30 a.m. to take the cable car up to Plateau Rosa (3480 mt.); you will climb the Western Breithorn (4161 mt.), crossing the first part of the Zermatt ski slopes and then crossing the entire Verra Glacier until you reach the Schwarztor (Black Gate); you will then head right to the Val d'Ayas Refuge (commonly called Lambronecca - 3394 mt.), where you will dine and sleep.
2nd Day: wake up early in the morning to climb Castor (4228 mt.): you will follow the path of the west wall and then descend to Quintino Sella hut (3585 mt.); after a well-deserved rest, there will be time to explain techniques for glacier self-rescue in order to be prepared for any eventuality! Dinner and overnight stay at the hut.
3rd Day: you will leave the hut in the early morning to climb up to Liskam Nose (4200 mt. Approx) following the Lys Glacier. You will arrive to Europe’s highest hut: the "Capanna Margherita” (4554 mt.) built on top of Punta Gnifetti/Signalkuppe. This hut is very popular among mountaineers, every year the hut counts more than 1000 visitors!
Dinner and overnight at the hut.
4th Day: you will reach the hut "Città di Mantova” (3498) across the peaks of Zumstein (4563), Parrot (4463), Ludwigshoe (4284), Schwarhorn and Piramide Vincent (the guide will choose the itinerary according to fitness and fatigue of the group).
You will enjoy your afternoon having some tea on the beautiful terrace of the hut, while discussing future adventures around the world! Dinner and overnight stay at the hut.
5th Day: reserve day, in case the entire program has taken place regularly, you will take the chance to climb the Punta Giordani. On the way down, you will pass again by the Città di Mantova to then traverse across the Indren Glacier to reach the Passo dei Salati (2937mt). There you will take the cable car back down to Staffal (Gressoney).
Taxi to return to Cervinia.

Difficulty/Level required
Well-trained mountaineers of an average level, in search of new perspectives: Monte Rosa Spaghetti Tour provides a great variety of terrain. You will need to have a good level of fitness, good sense of balance and the ability to walk on rough terrain. This is a fairly non-technical excursion apart from some glaciated sections.
It is necessary to have a resistance to about 5/8 hours of walking a day and a good acclimatization to the high altitude as you will be staying at above 3500 mt. It would be advisable for you to properly train and to climb a 4000 peak at least once before leaving for this Tour.
If you wish, we are happy to arrange a preparation and training tour for example to Gran Paradiso or some other climbs between 3600 and 4000 mt.
